MateFit Smart Burn is an overall supplement system that is supposed to help dieters to be able to lose weight. Instead of using one product, this system requires dieters to take four types of supplements, depending on the stage they’ve reached in the strategy.

According to the official brand website, the concept behind using MateFit Smart burn is to provide dieters with greater appetite control, energy and “mental strength”, while the body flushes out “toxins.” The manufacturer claims that all the ingredients in this product have been “researched and tested by many nutritionists and dietary scientists.” That said, it does not actually cite any studies or any of the results of the research nor does it describe any of the methods that were used in that research. Furthermore, it does not name the nutritionists and dietary scientists and it does not suggest that the product formulas or system as a whole have been researched.

They claimed to have studied the existing research into the individual ingredients in order to make the formula into a “never seen combination of ingredients” to make it possible to perform better at the gym, provide more “mental strength to control your diet” – a claim which was not explained in any greater detail than that – and to provide added fat burning through enhanced thermogenesis.

The ingredients in the MateFit Smart Burn formulas include:

• Stage 1 – Yerba Mate, Guarana, Kola Nut Powder
• Stage 2 – Licorice Root, Raspberry Ketone, Cardamom Seed, Apple Fruit Powder
• Stage 3 – Asian Ginseng Extract, 5-HTP (from Griffonia Seed Extract), Acetyl-L-Carnitine
• Stage 4 – Dandelion Root, Hibiscus Flower

At first glance, it is easy to see that there aren’t any revolutionary ingredients within these formulas. They all contain substances that are found quite commonly in the weight loss industry. What is concerning is that there does appear to be a focus on stimulants, laxatives and diuretics. While stimulants aren’t a problem as a substance – after all, caffeine is in coffee and people drink that every day – there is such thing as taking too much of it.

The Stage 1 ingredients are made up exclusively of ingredients containing stimulants. In fact, the guarana in that list is the substance that is often found in energy drinks, and it has been combined with two other stimulant-containing ingredients. The website does not specify exactly how much stimulant any of these products contains so it may be assumed that many people will experience side effects such as jitters, anxiety, moodiness, headaches, nausea, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure or other common stimulant-related symptoms.

The licorice root in Stage 2 and the dandelion root in Stage 4 are both known laxatives, while the latter can also work as a diuretic. This can help to explain why the website instructs users in an all-caps instruction to drink at least 64 ounces of water per day along with this product.

Using diuretics and laxatives for weight loss is a dubious and potentially dangerous practice. It is not scientifically proven to help boost fat loss and it provides very short term benefits at best. It is very important to speak with a doctor before taking this or any other product containing diuretics or laxatives.
